Where home becomes a pattern.                                                                    

I grew up on Cape Cod, where the salt air gets into everything and the light off the water changes ten times before dinner. That’s where I learned to look closely — at the shingles going silver, the marsh grass bending, the beach filling up and emptying out again.

My house was always full of making. My parents, my grandparents, my older brother — someone was always baking, painting or playing a musical instrument. Art wasn’t a special occasion in our family, it was our livelihood. I didn’t know that was unusual until much later.

I went on to earn a BFA in Textile Design.

New England is in my bones.                                                                                  

My family has been here a long time — back to the Mayflower, through the Salem witch trials, and down through John Adams, John Quincy Adams, Grover Cleveland, and General Nathanael Greene. I don’t say that to impress anyone. I say it because it explains something about why these towns and coastlines feel less like scenery to me and more like family.

Every pattern I make comes from here. Everything starts with a paintbrush. I paint each design by hand in watercolor first — always. Then I bring it into a repeating pattern, and I keep the brushstrokes. You can still see where the water pooled, where the pigment went heavy. I want the wallpaper on your wall to feel like a painting, because that’s exactly what it was.

Why I do this.      

Because a place can hold a whole life inside it. The town you grew up in. The beach where you spent every August. The street you walked with your grandmother. Those places live in you long after you’ve left them, and I think they deserve to live somewhere you can see them, too.

That’s what these designs are for. A little piece of home, or the place that feels like it — on your walls, your sofa, your morning coffee.
